Los Angeles-based virtual and augmented reality innovator Within has announced that its entire catalog of interactive stories designed for the popular children’s reading app Wonderscope will be free for the rest of the school year while the children continue to learn at home. The award-winning app uses augmented reality to encourage children to read aloud as they venture alongside a range of playful, diverse, and confidence-building characters.
âOur goal is to provide children with entertaining interactive stories that harness the power of the imagination to cultivate learning,â said Within original content executive producer Samantha Storr of Wonderscope. âAs we adjust to daily life inside our homes, we hope the free stories will make reading time a little more vibrant and joyful for children around the world. “
Downloadable to any iOS device, and a perfect tool for parents teaching kids at home, Wonderscope Stories invite kids ages 6 and up to a virtual world of colorful, endearing characters who instill valuable lessons while encouraging children to practice reading aloud. Wonderscope’s âLook Atâ feature allows characters to make eye contact with children, and voice recognition allows children of all reading levels to enjoy the app.
Wonderscope received the award for Best Learning App at the 2020 Kids Screen Awards and in 2019 won a Kids BAFTA for its inaugural story, A brief history of amazing people stunts. WIRED magazine called Wonderscope, “the future of augmented reality education”, praising its history, Clio’s Cosmic Quest, which teaches children about star formation by making them jump across the solar system. The app currently holds a four-star rating from Common Sense Media.
Wonderscope is free and comes pre-loaded with Clio’s Cosmic Quest. All additional stories are now available for free download and no credit card is required. Stories are regularly priced at $ 4.99.
