Where We Live: Triple Rainbow taps into children’s music

Their debut album, “You Are Magic”, will be released on January 21.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — What started as family fun for Jared Mees and his 2 daughters is now so much more. The Beaverton family is causing a stir in the world of children’s music.

Mees and her daughters – July, 9, and Piper, 5 – are known as Triple Rainbow.

“We write the songs together. We think about the things we encounter and deal with every day, so sometimes it’s a song like a ‘dance party’,” Mees told KOIN 6 News. “Sometimes a song is super silly and never sees the light of day, and sometimes we like it and, like, keep singing it and decide to record it and stuff.”

“It’s fun,” July said. “Not just seeing it, like, when you walked into your house because you know you did, but, like, it’s outside for everyone to see.”

Although they’ve been playing music for years, Triple Rainbow have come of age during the pandemic.

“We had COVID in August and started doing all of this because we couldn’t leave the house for 3 weeks,” Mees said.

Creativity runs in the family. He and his wife, Brianne, co-founded Tender Love Empirewhich presents local creations in 6 stores, including 2 at PDX.

Their label “Brave New People” release Triple Rainbow’s debut album, “You Are Magic”, January 21. And they take their act on the road.

“We want to write more songs. Yes, we want more songs,” July said.

“You know, we just want to have a good time with people,” Jared said, “bringing some light into the world.”
