Kids movies

What kids movies do you like these days?

This weekend, Toby, Anton and I are going to see…

Apollo 10 1/2: A Childhood in the Space Age, the new animated film written and directed by Richard Linklater (of Before Midnight, Boyhood and Dazed and Confused). Set in 1969, the story follows a young boy in Houston, Texas as he is swept away during the first moon landing. The NASA guys’ expressions in the trailer make me laugh and I can’t wait to see the whole movie.

Meanwhile, Pixar’s coming-of-age tale turn red features 13-year-old Chinese-Canadian Mei Lee, who transforms into a giant red panda whenever she gets excited or upset. Director Domee Shi – the genius behind the 8-minute film Bao – says she wanted to showcase a girl’s experience of puberty, which was a challenge as no woman had ever had credit for solo directing on a Pixar feature before. “How do I sell this and get old white men who have never been through this before excited to want to see more?” she wondered before a pitch meeting. Fortunately, Shi prevailed and her film approaches adolescence in a new way: “It’s a side of adolescent girls that you never see,” she said. the NY Times. “We’re just as clumsy, sweaty, lusty and horny as any boy.”

The choice of litter is not new, but I know Anton obsessed with dogs will love it. The documentary follows a litter of Labrador puppies who spend two years training to become guide dogs for the blind. Will they get there? We will see!
