Raya and the last dragon is a classic Disney tale, a lush animated fantasy with a star-studded voice cast that, in a normal year, could very well have pulled a Frozen by making over $ 1 billion at the box office. While it still performed (all things considered) admirably with moviegoers, the film premiered simultaneously, as in 2020. Mulan, on Disney + Premier Access. Until it’s available to all subscribers on June 4, you’ll have to pay an additional fee on top of your Disney + membership to grab it – but it’s worth it, because the movie is fantastic.
It tells the story of Raya (Kelly Marie Tran), a warrior princess from the “Heart Land” of the fictional kingdom of Kumandra who is the steward of a mystical orb created in the past by the dragons of the earth. The purpose of the orb: to protect the citizens of the Druun realm, evil spirits who absorb the life force of their victims, turning them to stone. When the five realms of Kumandra clash on the orb, it is shattered into five pieces which are stolen by the Druun. Raya must find the legendary Sisu, the last of the dragons, if she hopes to gather the orb and protect her people.
The film’s stellar cast also includes Gemma Chan, Daniel Dae Kim, Benedict Wong, Sandra Oh, Alan Tudyk, and Awkwafina as Sisu. He has received almost universal critical acclaim; Brian Tallerico from RogerEbert.com called it a “wonderful adventure”, praising it as “an ambitious family film that will suit all ages and that never gets its audience down while presenting them with an entertaining and stimulating story.” Raya and the last dragon is another great Disney image for the Vault – and it’s hands down the best family movie of the year so far.
Raya and the last dragon is available to stream on Disney + Premier Access for $ 29.99.
