ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. –– The Music Village in South Bend recently established a children’s workshop to help teach music to children on zoom.
Music teacher Melinda Wesolowski focuses on the basics of the Musikgarten, an internationally recognized early childhood music program. The program focuses on different rhythms and movements like singing, listening and playing instruments.
Wesolowski said that since they can’t take music lessons in person, the Zoom Workshop is a great alternative for kids.
“To allow them to experience the music, come back to the music,” Wesolowski said. “The Musikgarten is a variety. There are jingles, there are drums, there are rhythm sticks.”
Wesolowski said teaching music online comes with challenges, especially when teaching an instrument.
“With my piano students, I sometimes wish I could reach and indicate the key I want them to play, but with the Musikgarten no, ”Wesolowski said. “As long as they focus on the topic of the lesson. Either if it’s about listening or developing sounds and that sort of thing.
The next workshop starts on September 5th. To register for the children’s music workshop, visit the Music Village website at https://www.themusicvillage.org/children-s-workshops
