Saturday morning for kids, music lovers in downtown Sudbury

Sudbury Arts Council presents Tessa (Gooden) Balaz of YES Theater and her husband, Petr, who recently moved from Toronto. Their music was recently featured on CBC’s hit Kim’s Convenience series and they were nominated for three Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards.

They will perform shortly before 11 a.m. as part of the regular downtown Sudbury Jazz Saturdays in the TD parking lot on Durham Street.

The show opens at 10 am Saturday is the “Not” Laurentian University Jazz Combo Alumni, made up of former musicians who have performed with the group for over 25 years.

Under Allan Walsh’s direction, the LU Jazz Combo has produced some of the community’s most enthusiastic concerts, including collaborations with Oliver Jones at Tom Davies Square and other concert halls.

Players include Zach Clement, Kyle Bellefeuille, Dan Vellieux, Phil Mathieu, Scott Mitchell, Dominique Rivest, Ryan McIntosh, Matt Devost, Jacob Starling and Zach Martel.

In addition, Starling and Martel will present a special musical selection after the performance of Tess and Petr Balaz.

During the free concert on Saturday, Myths and Mirrors will be on hand to engage kids in creative arts and crafts.

There are free children’s books sponsored by Bay Used Books. Children are invited to do some summer reading at home.

Everyone is invited to relax and enjoy this free concert featuring some of Sudbury’s best musicians. Please bring a garden chair.
