Movies for children who need [More] Sequels or spin-offs

There are plenty of adult movies that for me, they just overdid it – Mission Impossible, Fast and Furious and Die Hard come to mind. But, when it comes to kids movies, there are a few shows that I wouldn’t even be mad about if we had sequels or spinoffs, or both.

I’m in love enough that my kids haven’t gotten so far into the princesses or the Star Wars series that we can’t enjoy these other gems.

Sing and sing 2. The first Sing movie legitimately brought me to tears when they performed together at the end. So many fun characters to know and love. And Sing 2, having Bono was just amazing. My kids were so impressed that I knew all the songs again before it even started. I know we’re only at Sing 2, but I can already think of so many ways to take on the characters. With the new theater and the fact that they have a “pretend Vegas” residency, they have the power to hit the road!

Cars. We love all three movies and can’t wait for number four, and honestly hope they’re planning a number five as well. It’s just one of those series that everyone can enjoy and be a part of. The music, the humor, the quirkiness of Lightning McQueen as he ages and grows into the spotlight and finally shares it with a female driver. You can’t leave these movies without a smile on your face. I would love to see a spin-off with some of the characters, like Cruz, or go back in time and do a black and white version with Doc. Yes, I know, I’ve thought about it too much.

Trolls, Trolls Holiday and Trolls WorldTour. These movies are just FUN. Great messages about respecting different people, letting go of long-held beliefs, and trusting your instincts. Winning messages, with amazing music and characters (hello, Justin Timberlake) – but really, why can’t we have a Trolls Wedding, Baby Trolls, and hit it with Oldies Trolls at some point? Please?

Back to the Outback. This Netflix movie was just adorable, and we really wish there were more! The various animals showed their strengths and band together to achieve a goal – and showed the flaws of humans while they were at it. Heartwarming and sweet all rolled into one with decent humor for adults watching too. The tracking could very easily track any of the individual animals, or they could fix a weather issue as a current event (I think an improvement over how Happy Feet did).

The Croods and The Croods: A New Era. Although some parts of these movies are a little goofy, they make you laugh and my kids have followed these movies by making some very interesting artwork and creatively solving problems in the backyard. The second added new characters, and as they continued to seek safety and follow the stories that happened historically, there are plenty of stories that could be followed.

Helen of Avalor. Although it’s a series, not a movie, and it’s a princess, I’m going to throw it out here because I’m sad it wasn’t more celebrated. The show is so twisty and twisty with the characters and storylines, and the music is so good and catchy. I find myself singing songs even now, long after watching it. And, like Encanto and Moana, there’s no boy to take the lead. Elena had just become queen at the end – now it’s time to see her reign!

Other than putting music in my AirPods, I haven’t had control of the TV in my house or the radio in my car for some time. I highly recommend finding the things you tolerate and maybe even enjoy to make this time in our lives a little more enjoyable.
